Spurs ready to fight for "amazing" striker with six UCL goals this season

Tottenham Hotspur are now ready to fight for the signature of an “amazing” in-demand striker, with talks potentially set to commence in the coming weeks, according to a report.

Spurs in need of a striker

Prior to Dominic Solanke’s return from injury, Ange Postecoglou experimented with a number of different options in attack, but none of the replacements have managed to consistently find the back of the net.

Richarlison has scored just two Premier League goals this term, having also struggled with injuries, while Mathys Tel has just one goal in six games since arriving on loan from Bayern Munich until the end of the season.

As such, there are clear signs Postecoglou will need to bring in a new striker this summer, and Spurs have identified a number of potential targets, although they have recently been dealt a blow in their pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

Arsenal are said to have overtaken Tottenham in the race for Sesko’s signature, which means Postecoglou’s side may be forced to move on to other targets, and a report from Spain has now revealed they are ready to fight it out for Lille’s Jonathan David.

David is one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe, given that he is available on a free transfer at the end of the campaign, and there may be competition for his signature from the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle United.

The English clubs view the Canadian as a perfect target, given the level of his performances in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, and talks are expected to start in the coming weeks, although it is unclear whether Spurs specifically will start negotiations.

"Amazing" David on fire in the Champions League

Lille still have a good chance of progressing to the Champions League quarter-finals, having drawn 1-1 with Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their round of 16 tie, and their striker has been one of their key players.

The Canada international has scored six goals in nine games in Europe’s elite competition, while also providing two assists, showcasing he is capable of performing at the very highest level.

After scoring against Montpellier at the weekend, the 25-year-old is remarkably now on 32 goal contributions in all competitions this season, indicating he very much deserves a move to one of Europe’s top clubs.

The Lille star has impressed in Ligue 1 for quite some time, being lauded as “amazing” by journalist Rick Westhead during the 2022-23 campaign, at which point he was outscoring the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Given that David is set to be available on a free transfer, he could be the perfect striker target for Tottenham, but they may find it very hard to compete for his signature, unless they manage to qualify for the Champions League via a Europa League triumph.

Arsenal looking to hijack AC Milan move to sign £50m Cunha teammate

da wazamba: Turning their attention towards the summer transfer window, Arsenal are now reportedly looking to hijack AC Milan’s move to sign a defensive reinforcement alongside interest in Matheus Cunha.

Arsenal transfer news

da 888casino: All but down and out in the Premier League title race thanks to knockout blows from West Ham United and Nottingham Forest, Arsenal’s task is clearer than ever this summer. They must rebuild Mikel Arteta’s attack. That must be their priority if they want to finally end their wait for England’s biggest honour for the first time in over two decades.

With that priority in mind, it’s no surprise that the rumours have already been coming thick and fast as names such as Alexander Isak threaten to steal the headlines. As things stand, it certainly seems like the Newcastle United man is the Gunners’ number one target, but whether they can afford to match his reported £150m price tag is another question entirely.

If it’s not the Swede, meanwhile, then it may well be Cunha. After failing to secure a move to The Emirates or elsewhere in January, the Brazilian put pen to paper on a new deal at Wolverhampton Wanderers which reportedly includes a release clause of £62m. A far more affordable option than Isak, Arsenal are seemingly among those eyeing Cunha’s signature once again this summer.

He’s not the only Wolves star they could sign, either. According to Caught Offside, Arsenal are now looking to hijack AC Milan’s move to sign Rayan Ait-Nouri this summer.

The Italian giants have reportedly been lining up a move to sign the left-back as a replacement for Theo Hernandez, who looks set to leave the San Siro this summer. Arsenal could yet stand in the way of that move, however, and perhaps even match Wolves’ €60m (£50m) price tag when the summer arrives.

"Talented" Ait-Nouri would add surprise attacking spark

If reports are to be believed and Ait-Nouri is on Arsenal’s radar, then those in North London could be about to see the end of central defenders inverting at full-back with natural players preferred in such a role. Ait-Nouri would certainly be a solid candidate if that is to be the case too, given how his attacking exploits would help to sharpen a blunt Arsenal attack.

A player who often steps onto the front foot and leaves his mark, Ait-Nouri is exactly the type of driving force Arteta needs to ignite his side’s attacking spark once again.

Earning plenty of praise during his time at Wolves, former manager Gary O’Neil told reporters when asked about the left-back: “I know he’s played a lot of games for Wolves and he’s extremely talented, but there’s still a lot of learning that he needs to do in his understanding of the game.”

At just 23 years old, there’s still plenty more to come from Ait-Nouri whether it’s at Wolves, AC Milan or, indeed, Arsenal.

Mullin remains a fan favourite at SToK Racecourse after registering more than 100 goals for the Red Dragons while helping them to promotion out of the National League and League Two. The 2024-25 campaign has been a tough one for the 30-year-old frontman.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The target has been found on just three occasions, with only nine starts being recorded. Mullin has not figured in a matchday squad since February 23, with record-breaking transfer business in January seeing him slip down the pecking order.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

There has been talk of Wrexham sanctioning a sale in the next window, freeing up funds and squad space for further additions, with Phil Parkinson looking for more Championship pedigree to be added to his ranks.

    WHAT EFL PUNDIT SAID

Former EFL star turned pundit David Prutton has told of Mullin’s situation: "As we saw when he first joined the club, dropping out of the EFL, he took a real chance and a gamble. Yes, you would say it was a well-paid gamble, but he's delivered the goals that have given the foundations of a side that has gotten itself into the Championship, which is a glorious thing to see.

"There would be an element of sentiment there, I don't think he would be used sentimentally. I think he's a player that is proven to be a very decent part of this Wrexham side. However, the Championship, as we know, is brutal. Wrexham, potentially, given their financial foundations, may want to think that – and this is casting no shade on Paul Mullin – they maybe want to look at someone more established from a Championship point of view, or someone dropping down from the Premier League.

"Undoubtedly, the story that's been created around them will make them a very, very attractive proposition for many players."

Abhishek: 'The team has always told me to keep my attacking intent'

“That was a big moment for me, that when the team wants me to do that, then I can do it”

Abhishek: ‘At SRH and India, I have the freedom to express myself’

Abhishek Sharma has had a blistering couple of years in the IPL and his elevation to the India T20I side has been justified by his performances, which now includes a 34-ball 79 against England in Kolkata. But he has also blown hot and blown cold over this period, being dismissed for under 20 in eight of his first 12 T20I innings and also putting on some big-hitting shows. With India having a plethora of top-order batters, all potentially breathing down his neck and vying for the same position, the pressure can build on a man who is still only 24.However, Abhishek said his captains and coaches have told him never to change his style of play, and that’s what has given him the freedom to play fearless cricket.Related

Abhishek, Varun lead India's demolition of England

“I have thought always from the start to be a team player,” Abhishek said at the press conference after setting up India’s win over England in the first T20I with 43 balls to spare. “In India, there will always be a lot of competition [when it comes to selection] in our senior team. But when Suryakumar [Yadav, the T20I captain] and Gautam [Gambhir] tell me to always keep my intent, that was a big moment for me, that when the team wants me to do that, then I can do it.”As a batsman, it can play on your mind if you don’t score runs in three-four-five innings, but the way the coach and captain have managed all the players, even when I’ve not done well – even then they tell us, ‘we know you’re going to win the game for us, any game, just go and express yourself’ – I think when the captain or coach say this, you get confidence and you back yourself.”Abhishek has worked closely with some great batters as a young man coming up the ranks, especially at Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and he credits them for not only improving his batting but also giving him the scope to play freely.”I believe I’m very lucky in this,” he said. “I was working with [Yuvraj Singh] at first. Going forward, I had Brian Lara, who really helped me at SRH. Moving forward, Dan Vettori was pretty simple, he just wanted everyone to express themselves, and I think that gave me the freedom to play my shots. So obviously, with Yuvraj Singh, Brian Lara and even Gauti right now, they just want me to showcase my talent the way I play and to back myself.”

Abhishek also revealed his style of preparation leading into big tournaments and series, while giving a vote of confidence to India’s new batting coach Sitanshu Kotak.”I think it comes at the camp only, once you’re practicing for a tournament,” Abhishek said. “I try and want to face the kind of bowlers I will potentially face in a match.”Special mention to Kotzy sir [Kotak] and Abhishek Nayar . Both helped me in the nets to get me similar bowlers. I always believe that going into a match or a particular tournament, I hope I get similar bowlers that I will get in the match. Shot selection is very simple for me. I watch the ball and react.”On a good batting surface in Kolkata, Abhishek did not forget to credit the India spinners for their strangle-job of an explosive batting line-up to restrict them to 132, calling Varun Chakravarthy a “game changer”.”I think if you see the last few series, the way Varun has bowled, I think he has been a game changer for us,” he said. “When you get good wickets all around in the T20 format, you have to have that bowler that bowls really well. It is always difficult for other teams to pick him up. Also, the other spinners, Ravi Bishnoi and Axar [Patel] . It is very difficult for batters to play shots.”

Aston Villa and Roma in talks as Serie A side prepare first Leon Bailey offer amid Besiktas and Saudi Arabia interest

Roma have turned their attention to Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey, opening talks as they face competition from Turkey and clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Roma are in talks with Villa over a deal to sign Jamaican winger Bailey, with negotiations focusing on a loan with an option to buy, according to . The 28-year-old is not central to Unai Emery’s plans, and Villa are open to offers. Turkish club Besiktas and multiple Saudi Pro League sides have also shown interest, but Roma have emerged as the most serious contenders.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportTHE BIGGER PICTURE

Bailey joined Aston Villa in 2021 from Bayer Leverkusen for around €32 million (£27m/$37m), signing a contract that runs until 2027. While he has made 144 appearances, scoring 22 goals and providing 24 assists, his game time under Emery has dwindled, just 14 league starts last season. Roma see Bailey as a key attacking reinforcement after also reportedly pursuing Jadon Sancho and Abde Ezzalzouli, but budget constraints mean they prefer a loan deal over a permanent transfer this summer.

Bailey’s career has taken him across several footballing landscapes as the Jamaican winger honed his skills through youth stints in Austria and Slovakia before making his professional breakthrough at Belgian side Genk. His rapid rise in Belgium earned him a big move to Leverkusen in 2017, where his flair and pace quickly caught the eye across Europe.

His time at Villa has been a mix of dazzling moments and frustrating setbacks. While Bailey has produced flashes of brilliance in the Premier League, injuries and inconsistent form have often prevented him from cementing a regular starting role under successive managers.

Roma’s interest in Bailey comes as part of an ambitious summer rebuild. Should the deal go through, he would become their seventh signing of the window and their second arrival from the Premier League, following the loan capture of Brighton striker Evan Ferguson.

The race for his signature, however, is far from straightforward. Besiktas and several Saudi clubs are also in the hunt, offering lucrative packages, but Roma’s sporting project and the opportunity to shine in Serie A remain highly appealing to the player.

Another key factor could be the influence of manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who has made no secret of his desire to add more attacking firepower to bolster Roma’s domestic and European ambitions. With Bailey’s blend of pace, creativity, and experience, he could well be the kind of player to give Roma that extra edge in the final third.

Roma have yet to submit an official bid, but talks are expected to intensify in the coming days. If an agreement is reached, Bailey could join the Giallorossi squad before the end of the transfer window, adding pace and directness to their wide play.

Tottenham now preparing bid to re-sign ace as Levy misses buy-back clause

da poker: Despite missing the deadline to trigger their buy-back option, Daniel Levy and Tottenham Hotspur are now reportedly preparing an offer to re-sign a Premier League defender.

Daniel Levy: "Failure is not an option"

da bwin: The biggest decision of Tottenham’s summer so far has undoubtedly been the appointment of Thomas Frank after showing Ange Postecoglou the door. The decision to sack Australian is one that split opinion just weeks after the Lilywhites ended their trophy drought by winning the Europa League against Manchester United.

Levy has since spoken for the first time since sacking Postecoglou, revealing that it was a difficult decision emotionally. He told reporters: “I don’t regret appointing Ange, I’m very grateful to Ange. In his first season we finished fifth and in his second we were over the moon to win a trophy.

“But we need to compete in all competitions, and we felt that we needed a change. Emotionally it was difficult but we feel that we’ve made the right decision for the club. “I’ve got very broad shoulders. Failure is not an option, the desire [is] to succeed. And because it’s so difficult, I want to succeed even more.”

Frank green-lights move for "decisive" star to replace Tottenham forward

The Dane is “crazy” about signing him.

ByEmilio Galantini Jun 21, 2025

Whether those in North London agree with the decision or not, Postecoglou’s departure has since opened the door for Frank to step into the hot seat for the biggest job of his career.

It has been a long time coming for the Dane, who took Brentford to new heights despite often lacking in resources. Now at Tottenham, he has the chance to prove that he belongs at the very top by turning things around in North London.

That turnaround must start away from the pitch and in the transfer window, however, with names such as Antoine Semenyo alongside a name that Spurs fans know well already among the headlines on that front.

Tottenham preparing offer to re-sign Cirkin

According to reports relayed by The Northern Echo, Tottenham are now preparing a formal offer to re-sign Dennis Cirkin despite missing the deadline to trigger their buy-back clause from Sunderland.

The left-back has blossomed into an impressive talent since swapping Spurs for Wearside and now finds himself back in the Premier League with the Black Cats. That return has not gone under the radar, however, and Levy now has his sights set on a reunion.

Cirkin would not only hand Frank an instant boost in his backline but also help Spurs to fill their homegrown quota in the Champions League next season. On all fronts, it is a deal that may make sense for the Lilywhites.

Sunderland are reportedly eager to keep hold of Cirkin and tie their defender down to a new contract. Whether they are able to convince their defender to ignore the interest of his former club remains to be seen, though.

Alas, having already lost Jobe Bellingham for big money, the Black Cats have proved their ability to drive a hard bargain and with no buy-back clause to fall back on, Spurs could yet face some tough negotiations.
