da apostebet: Ruud Van Nistelrooy ended his interim time in charge of Manchester United by steering his reinvigorated Red Devils side to a 3-0 win in the Premier League, as Steve Cooper’s Leicester City offered very little in return to compete with the hosts at Old Trafford.
da bet7: The much-loved Dutchman picked up three wins and a draw in all competitions from the dug-out, with his first victory coming against the Foxes funnily enough in the EFL Cup, before another win against the newly promoted side came his way on Sunday afternoon.
Now, it’s up to Ruben Amorim to take on the permanent reins over the stand-in 48-year-old, with the exciting Portuguese manager no doubt pleased with the performances of some standout Red Devils figures this weekend.
Best Man United performers vs Leicester
Bruno Fernandes feels like a good player to kickstart this discussion off, with the playmaker excelling under the interim reign, with Amorim hopeful he can be key under his guidance too.
The 30-year-old got the ball rolling for his side in their pursuit of another three points, after the United number eight hammered home an early first-half effort past the Foxes goalkeeper.
That was Fernandes’ fourth goal in as many games, with the constantly creative attacking midfielder finding a new lease of life under Van Nistelrooy, away from the dire end of Erik ten Hag’s bumpy reign.
Manuel Ugarte also impressed in the midfield positions, shoring up the United defence, with a stunning ten ground duels won on top of only skewing four of his 50 passes on the day.
A favourite under Amorim during his Sporting CP days, the summer recruit will pray his spot in the United starting XI is now set in stone, especially when the new manager enters into the esteemed dug-out and makes the look of the team his own.
He’s not the only undroppable figure though…
Amad's performance in numbers
Amad Diallo will also be keeping everything crossed that he has made his position down the right wing as concrete as possible, with the Ivorian standing out again for United across the span of the 3-0 win.
Used sparingly under the previous regime, Amad had managed to spark into life under Van Nistelrooy’s stint in the hot seat, with two goals coming against PAOK in the Europa League before the showdown with Leicester back in the league.
Although the 22-year-old didn’t fire home another goal against Cooper’s men, he still stood out as a lively option down the right flank, with a little flick by the former Sunderland loanee setting up Fernandes for the opening goal of the one-sided contest.

The United number 16 excelled both as a livewire – with four successful dribbles on the day twisting and turning Leicester markers for fun – but also as an option getting stuck in to win the ball back to launch attacks, with a high ten duels won across the course of his bright 90 minutes.
Amorim could now see Amad as the best possible option he has on the right flank based on his promising showings under Van Nistelrooy, with Antony really the only other player he could rely on in his threadbare part of the pitch.
Having been largely frozen out of ten Hag’s plans when it came to being selected in the top flight, Amad must be delighted with how well he has done under the stand-in boss, having also picked up a glowing 8/10 match rating by the Express’ Joe Krishnan for his efforts versus the Foxes.
But, he will hope there’s plenty more to come, as United launch headfirst into a new era under Amorim very soon.

The team has never won the IPL title, and finished sixth in each of the three seasons Anil Kumble was their coach

Punjab Kings have appointed Trevor Bayliss as head coach ahead of IPL 2023, after Anil Kumble’s contract was not renewed. Kings had failed to make the playoffs for three consecutive seasons under Kumble.Bayliss comes with a lot of pedigree, not just internationally but also in the IPL. He was the head coach of England when they won the 2019 ODI World Cup and was also the chief coach at Kolkata Knight Riders when they won the IPL in 2012 and 2014. More recently, Bayliss was the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Bayliss recently coached London Spirit at the men’s Hundred event in England.Kings have qualified for the playoffs only twice despite being a part of the IPL from the very beginning (as Kings XI Punjab). The first time was in the inaugural season, 2008, when they made the semi-finals, and then in 2014, when they finished runners-up to Knight Riders. They have finished sixth in each of the last four seasons. The decision to let Kumble go was taken by a board comprising co-owners Preity Zinta, Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia and Karan Paul, as well as Kings’ chief executive officer Satish Menon.Related

Kumble joined Kings in 2020. At the time, he became the fifth coach Kings had appointed in five seasons after Sanjay Bangar (2014-16), Virender Sehwag (2017), Brad Hodge (2018) and Mike Hesson (2019).In 2020, Kumble was the only Indian head coach in IPL. Kings were the third IPL team he had worked with after his playing days, having earlier served as mentor for Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians. This was before he took the job of India head coach for a year in 2016.Under Kumble, Kings won 19 and lost 23 matches over three seasons. That is the second worst win-loss ratio for any team in IPL since 2020, only behind Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Last season At last. The final game of the competition saw South Australia win their first Shield match in over two years when they chased down 326 on the final day against New South Wales. Until then it had been a season of small games amid defeats against Western Australia and Queensland. After making 492 in the opening match – a high-scoring draw against WA – they only crossed 300 once in their remaining first innings.South Australia Shield fixtures

Player to watch Henry Hunt marked himself out as one of rising stars in Australian batting with 610 runs at 42.92 including three centuries last season, which he followed with another hundred for Australia A in Sri Lanka. It won’t be too long before the Test sides needs at least one new opener and another strong summer should keep Hunt firmly in the frame. Two years after his Shield debut, Daniel Drew earned another opportunity and marked it with a maiden century against Victoria. Liam Scott continues to have the makings of a promising allrounder: the batting is yet to kick on, but he took 13 wickets at 20.15 last season.Australia radar Travis Head and Alex Carey should be available until at least mid-November which will add significant strength to the batting line-up. However, both will be in India when the competition resumes in February, unless Head’s poor returns in Sri Lanka cost him a spot but falling out of the squad entirely seems unlikely. Head averaged 44.00 in his six matches last season, but Carey only managed 19.88 in his six appearances. South Australia are unlikely to have anyone else pushing for international contention unless a batting-injury crisis strikes and brings Hunt further into the equation or Nathan McAndrew is elevated further from Australia A.

da doce: When Julen Lopetegui took the reins at West Ham United, the bog in which he is currently mired is something that would have been dreaded. The unthinkable eventuality.
da apostaganha: The Spanish tactician needs to do something drastic in the coming weeks if he is to win over the Hammers fanbase, who are collectively mourning former boss David Moyes (who was, let’s not forget, shooed out the door).
West Ham United manager David Moyes
West Ham are 14th in the Premier League and floundering, without a discernible style of play or indeed a modicum of confidence. Thrashed by Nottingham Forest last time out, it’s a situation tail-spinning out of control.
Points and positive performances are needed, but in fairness to Lopetegui, he’s not being helped by his players, with Edson Alvarez stupidly picking up his second red card of the season at the City Ground.
Edson Alvarez's abject start to the season
Alvarez’s careless and clumsy challenge was a personification of his season, which in itself was a further personification of the travails under Lopetegui’s management.
Edson Alvarez
The Mexico international was monstrous at times last term, signed for a £35m fee from Ajax to help replace Declan Rice. This year, he’s been a mere shadow, languishing at the epicentre of the Irons’ struggles.
What’s more, the 27-year-old doesn’t look like he’s putting in his full capacity of performance, something that is inexcusable. Even if Lopetegui is replaced post-haste, and West Ham click back into gear – is he truly the man to anchor the midfield?
West Ham could change tack and sign a former target: Richard Rios.
West Ham should sign Richard Rios
Back when the summer transfer window was open, Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra revealed that West Ham were interested in bidding for Palmeiras star Rios, with further Premier League outfits watching the central midfielder.
The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the finest midfielders playing in Brazil over the past few years, featuring 96 times for Palmeiras and notching 11 goal contributions. He was instrumental in winning the 2023 league title.
Transfer Focus
Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.
This season, the athletic ace, who stands at 6 foot 2, has averaged 2.4 tackles and 5.3 successful duels per game, as per Sofascore, which bears testament to his muscular physique and combative approach – something that suggests he could neatly replace the struggling Alvarez.
The intrigue seems to be genuine, with reports from only a few weeks ago pointing toward retained Hammers interest. Rios, who is understood to be valued at €20m (£17m) by his Brasileiro Serie A outfit, is a tough and tenacious midfielder, exactly what West Ham need.
Described as a “ball-carrying machine” by analyst Ben Mattinson, he might even be Rice’s successor at the London Stadium, for the Arsenal sensation is known for his energy and forward-driving skill with the ball.

Both players operate in dynamic and progressive roles, but Rios is showcasing some exciting hints of versatility that could see him be the perfect option in West Ham’s midfield, reinforcing it but also transforming it into something more lively and multi-dimensional.
West Ham should seriously consider revisiting their interest in this ‘machine’. He’s cut from a similar cloth as Rice and he has the defensive quality to replace Alvarez.

Both midfielders are out of contract in the summer and could depart for pastures new on Bosman deals. Turkish Süper Lig side Besiktas are already tempting Jorginho with a move away, according to some reports, while it is rumoured that clubs in Saudi are eyeing a summer move for Partey.
The latter, after a difficult 2023/2024 campaign blighted by injuries and lack of first-team chances, has become a mainstay in Arsenal’s midfield once again – starting 11 out of a possible 12 Premier League games so far this season.

Previous injuries to the likes of Mikel Merino and Martin Odegaard handed Partey an opportunity to stake his claim for a consistent place in the starting line-up, with the experienced Jorginho also proving his worth as a rotational player.
There have been some rumours that Arsenal are prepared to offer Partey a contract extension, which would keep him at the club until 2027 (The Boot Room), but this is yet to gain traction among national media outlets.
As things stand, the Ghana international and Jorginho are edging towards the exit door, prompting links to some top-class new midfield options.
CaughtOffside reported earlier this week that Arsenal are ready to bid £50 million for Martin Zubimendi in January, and now that same outlet has shared some news on Arteta’s pursuit of Crystal Palace sensation Adam Wharton.
Arsenal preparing January move for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton
CS write that Arsenal are prepared to make a move for Wharton in January, and hope to sign the England international for around £46 million, but Palace value him closer to £54 million.
Talks have already been held over the 20-year-old, who has been enjoying a fantastic 2024 since his move to Selhurst Park from Blackburn Rovers earlier this year.
Wharton’s form was rewarded with a call-up by Gareth Southgate to England’s squad for Euro 2024, with the defensive midfielder carrying that momentum into this campaign with eight Premier League starts under Oliver Glasner so far this term.
He is widely regarded as one of the country’s most exciting up-and-coming talents, with teammate Eberechi Eze lauding Wharton’s potential and maturity for such a young player.
“He’s an incredible player to play with,” said Eze (via BBC).
“Playing with him at Palace, I’ve got used to seeing the way he plays and understanding him. He’s very calm, composed, and a joy to play with.
“For someone so young, he’s very mature and very wise. When you speak to him, it feels like you’re speaking to someone older than you, that’s the type of person he is. He’s an incredible player.”

“I want to be unbeaten in all five Tests in this year,” says West Indies head coach after beating Bangladesh in Antigua

While Bangladesh are down on confidence, West Indies are bursting with it and coach Phil Simmons now wants his team to continue this progress for the rest of the World Test Championship cycle. The captain Kraigg Brathwaite has been a significant factor in West Indies’ rise in the last 18 months. He made the highest score (94) across all four innings in the Antigua Test against Bangladesh and, according to his coach, is constantly getting better as both a player and a leader.”Everyone has seen [Brathwaite’s] determination,” Simmons said. “His unique style. He doesn’t have a problem doing his job for five days. It is unique because a lot of batsmen nowadays like to play shots and be done with it.”From his point of view, he wants to be there for the team. That rolls into the captaincy. He is not loud but the players know what he wants. He makes them understand in his unique way. He seems to be growing in the role.”With their victory on Sunday, West Indies have now won three of their eight WTC matches and are unbeaten in their last four Tests.”We started 2021 in the same way,” Simmons said. “We won two in Bangladesh, and drew two against Sri Lanka. It is about how we go forward from here. I want to be unbeaten in all five Tests in this year. That would be good for me. Guys are getting confident in what they are doing. It makes your job and role easier the more confidence you have. It has happened especially after winning the series against England not too long ago. The confidence showed.”Kemar Roach too contributed heavily in the Antigua win, after nearly missing the game. The 33-year old fast bowler had to clear a last-minute fitness test to make himself available for selection, and once he did, he terrorised the Bangladesh batting line-up, finishing with match figures of 7 for 74 and equalling Michael Holding’s tally of 249 Test wickets.”[Roach] has taken things to the next level,” Simmons said. “He has been excellent. He is now tied with Mikey [Holding], but in the dressing room he is always leading the youngsters. He has played 70 Tests, so he educates them. It is great to have him in the dressing room.”There were other boxes ticked off as well. John Campbell made his first Test fifty in 15 innings, an innings which helped them recover from 9 for 3 and see off a chase of 84. “I think it was really important,” Simmons said. “He has had good starts in most of the games but failed to get past that 30-40 mark. The unbeaten fifty must give him some kind of confidence to get that big score, hopefully in the next Test match.”West Indies’ slip catching too was impressive in this Test match. They took 13 catches behind the wicket, dropping just the one. Six of those 13 catches were taken at slip, while wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva gobbled up the other seven. Simmons was asked to explain this and he said, “it is a matter of practice. I think the guys are enjoying the fact that the balls are coming to them. It is after a long time I am seeing the ball going to first slip in the Caribbean. It is nice to see.”There’s also the fact that Jason Holder might come back into the team later in the year so nobody wants to be put out of there. They know that he will walk right back into the slips. That could be a motivation too.”
