da bwin: Despite David Moyes' future still being uncertain, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season, West Ham United have reportedly turned their attention towards potential incomings for whoever may be in the hot seat next season.
West Ham transfer news
da dobrowin: The likes of Steve Cooper and Graham Potter have already been linked with the West Ham job if Moyes fails to sign a new deal this summer. Potter has of course been without a job since being sacked at Chelsea last season. Now, however, he could get the chance to step back into Premier League management at the Blues' London rivals.
Chelsea's Graham Potter
He may have his critics, but Moyes will no doubt take some replacing at the London Stadium. The Scot would be leaving as a Europa Conference League champion and as the manager who took West Ham from relegation trouble and into a club competing in the Premier League's top half.

Whilst potentially searching for their next manager, the Hammers have still kept an eye on potential incomings, however, having seemingly turned their attention towards Nottingham Forest, who need to balance their books to avoid a second Financial Fair Play charge. And that has already seen the Hammers linked with Morgan Gibbs-White and now Taiwo Awoniyi.
According to Soccer Net, West Ham have emerged as a potential destination for Awoniyi, as the London club possibly look to replace the ageing Michail Antonio ahead of next season. The defenders at the London Stadium certainly know all about the Forest striker, that's for sure, given that he netted in both fixtures against them this season.
"Excellent" Awoniyi is better than Antonio
Whilst there was a stage in which Antonio was the main man in West Ham's attack, that stage has passed. The 33-year-old is beginning to show his age, handing Moyes a problem that he may need to solve if he is still at the club this summer. And in the face of that problem, Awoniyi makes perfect sense when it comes to finding an upgrade and replacement for the current Hammers forward.

It's also worth noting that Awoniyi managed 10 goals in his debut campaign in the Premier League last season, making the praise of former boss Steve Cooper no surprise. Cooper previously said to the media:
"You always want your number nine scoring goals. I’ve said before that we missed him a lot when he got injured and he missed three months. He was doing well just before that and so to get him back in the form he has shown has been excellent."
With that said, West Ham could be hoping to be the ones benefitting from Awoniyi's goalscoring talent, rather than the side on the receiving end next season, making this one to watch alongside Gibbs-White.
After last-ball thrillers in East London and Durban, England chase down South Africa’s second-highest score at Centurion in fine style

After last-ball thrillers in East London and Durban, England sealed the T20 series in the final over in Centurion to deny South Africa a first series win since March 2019. In a high-scoring thriller, England chased down South Africa’s second-highest score at this venue in fine style, with half-centuries from Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow keeping them on track and Eoin Morgan’s unbeaten 57 providing the perfect finish.England fined for slow over rate
England were fined 20% of their match fee for maintaining a slow over rate during South Africa’s innings. Match referee David Boon imposed the sanctions after the hosts were found to be one over short of the target after taking time allowances into account. As per the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined 20% of their match fees for every over short.
The result means England leave South Africa with two out of the three trophies on offer and half of the third (the ODI cup was shared) and have provided high-class entertainment during a summer of rebuilding for the hosts. The run-rate in the series was the highest in any three-match rubber – 10.12. It’s a nice record to be part of, but it won’t mean much to South Africa, who started each of the three formats with a win, only to fade away as the fixtures rolled on.England’s early preparations for the T20 World Cup are on track with several of their players finding form. Morgan was the highest run-scorer overall with two half-centuries in three matches while Tom Curran’s variations were used to good effect. He claimed the important wickets of top-scorer Heinrich Klaasen and Dwaine Pretorius at the death in this match to derail South Africa’s push towards 240 and finished as England’s highest wicket-taker of the series.South Africa, under stand-in captain Quinton de Kock, will be pleased with the way he has taken to leadership and his opening partnership with Temba Bavuma but have work to do finding the right combination in the middle order. Dale Steyn’s return bodes well for the T20 World Cup but he was left in the shade by Lungi Ngidi, who topped the wicket charts and whose slower ball has added greatly to his skill set. It did not do the trick at SuperSport Park but after spending much of the last three months recovering from injury, Ngidi will just be pleased to be on the park and performing. The last five overs South Africa scored 58 runs in the last five overs, so England’s ask of 62 off the final five was not out of the question. Steyn ushered in the final passage of play by giving away only three runs off the first five balls of his final over. But the sixth one, a slower ball of the kind that foxed Ben Stokes, did not deceive Morgan, who heaved it over long-off for six. He tucked into Ngidi’s next over, with two sixes in three balls and then Stokes pulled Andile Phehlukwayo’s penultimate over apart, with successive maximums. The 17th and 18th overs cost South Africa 36 runs and ensured England scored more than half of what they required in the final five, to clear their path to victory.Best of the summer Buttler and Bairstow shared in the highest partnership of the match, 91 runs, and both put on their best performances of the summer to leave South Africa in a different state than when they arrived in. The pair have been under pressure in the longest format but came good with half-centuries each to keep England on track in the chase. Buttler latched on to anything too full, with the pick of his shots a six over long-on off Steyn, while Bairstow was ruthless against spin. He took 10 runs off Bjorn Fortuin’s first two balls and 14 runs off the first three balls of Shamsi’s second over, including a six straight down the ground. Much like what happened to South Africa when their set pair were dismissed, when Buttler and Bairstow were snuffed out, England wobbled. They lost 3 for 39 in the middle of the innings but had Morgan on-hand to put them back on track.Opening stands South Africa’s top two set the tone strongly in all three matches in this series with stands of 92, 48 and 84 while England’s pair did not manage a partnership more than 20 once. At SuperSport Park, de Kock and Bavuma showed intent from the first ball, when Bavuma cut Moeen Ali for four. That shot served him well throughout his innings and he initially looked to be taking a more aggressive approach than de Kock, until Chris Jordan came on in the fourth over. De Kock hit three successive sixes – the second brought up South Africa’s fifty off 22 balls – to overtake Bavuma, but only temporarily. Bavuma took 10 runs off Adil Rashid’s first two balls to edge ahead. If the game between them had continued, South Africa could have seen 250 in their sights but they were dismissed within four balls of each other, which stalled the innings.England also started on an encouraging note, with 15 runs off the first seven balls they faced but then Jason Roy was brilliantly caught by Tabraiz Shamsi, whose time at the strength and conditioning camp seems to have paid off. That meant England’s first-wicket stand was the lowest of the three matches. The real cost of the wides England’s nine wides meant that they bowled an extra over-and-a-half but their transgressions cost them much more than that. A calculation of the runs scored off the extra ball bowled – the ball immediately after the wide – revealed that England conceded a further 31 runs, meaning the real cost of their wides was 40 runs. That included a Klaasen six off Stokes over deep mid-wicket, fours off Mark Wood down the ground and Jordan through backward point and a David Miller four through backward square leg off Jordan and six over deep mid-wicket off Curran. Ultimately, the wides were the difference between 180 and 220 but it still didn’t stop England from winning.Crucial drops Bavuma is not a player you would associate with fielding errors but he made one when he put down a straightforward chance off Pretorius, that would have seen Dawid Malan dismissed at the end of the 12th over. Bavuma was at extra cover when Malan, on 8, hit the ball firmly towards him and it burst through his hands. Little damage was done as Malan only added three more to his score before under-edging Shamsi to de Kock. Pretorius, though, went on to make a bigger mistake. In the penultimate over, two balls after Ngidi had Stokes caught on the boundary, Moeen top-edged, Pretorius ran in from short fine leg and made the ground he needed to take the catch but then put it down. England needed 16 from nine balls at that stage and another wicket might have made the difference but it was not to be.

da fezbet: Resurgence. A word synonymous with Tottenham Hotspur and their efforts under manager Ange Postecoglou this season, who arrived last summer following Antonio Conte's dismissal.
da dobrowin: It was a critical juncture for an outfit beset with issues, not least the looming departure of Harry Kane, whose 280 Spurs goals have left him the club's record scorer and the second-highest goalscorer in Premier League history.
Were Tottenham facing the abyss? Was this the end of a fruitful period of history that saw sustained Champions League campaigns and (unsuccessful) conquests for silverware?
Under Ange and his craggy-faced, straight-talking disposition, the club has been propelled back into the mix for top four and indeed would perch in fourth place were they to win their game in hand.
Ange Postecoglou
Resurgence. Tottenham sure is seeing it and so too are many of its players, with Richarlison, Heung-min Son, Yves Bissouma and Pedro Porro some of the existing stars revitalised by Postecoglou and the exciting new additions.
Not all have risen to the fore, however, with winger Bryan Gil failing to make an impression and surely destined for the door. And that's sooner rather than later.
What was said when Bryan Gil joined Spurs
Gil, with a distinct Liverpudlian look that belies his Catalonian roots, completed a move to Tottenham from Sevilla for a fee approaching £22m, with Erik Lamela headed in the opposite direction.
He had enjoyed a promising start to life in La Liga and posted four goals and three assists across 26 top-flight starts during the 2020/21 campaign, on loan at Eibar, also averaging 1.8 key passes, 2.3 dribbles and 5.4 successful duels per game, as per Sofascore.
Joining Tottenham aged just 20 years old, it looked to be a real coup and something of a no-brainer for a rising star wielding all the tools to fashion success at the summit of the Premier League.
Tottenham winger Bryan Gil.
He was brazen, direct and electric, said to boast shades of Jack Grealish and on a pedestal with La Masia's Pedri and Ansu Fati as Spain's most coveted prospect, the nation's most thrilling emergence and a thoroughbred showman.
His gliding gait and fearlessness indeed made him quite the prospect and there was little question that the young Spaniard was endowed with stagging ability.
First Impressions
What did pundits and fans alike think about their new star signing when they arrived? Football FanCast's 'First Impressions' series has everything you need.
On par with Bellingham & Saka in 2021
In fact, Gil was considered one of the brightest prospects in world football, with his name chalked onto the final 20-man shortlist for the 2021 Golden Boy award.
He might have only enjoyed one season earning regular starts in the Spanish top-flight, featuring as a teenager for most of that campaign, but he had made quite the impression, with talent scout Jacek Kulig remarking that he had a "left foot made of pure gold."
And it was that term of action that bestowed upon Gil a place among some of the world's finest youngsters in the Golden Boy awards, alongside some salient names such as Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham.
While Gil struggles for minutes in Postecoglou's Tottenham, Saka is the offensive fulcrum of Arsenal's challenge for silverware in both the Premier League and the Champions League, with 16 goals and 15 assists in all competitions to showcase his brilliance.
Arsenal star Bukayo Saka.
Bellingham… well, what is there to say? If England are to see one of their own raised to the pinnacle of the game as Ballon d'Or winner any time soon, the Birmingham-born midfielder is unquestionably the most likely name.
The 20-year-old joined Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund in a package which could rise to £115m last summer, opting for the Spanish capital despite a vested interest from Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester City.
Performing at jaw-dropping heights since joining the planet's most prestigious football club, Bellingham has plundered 20 goals and nine assists in a Los Blancos shirt, leading Fabrizio Romano to herald him as a "machine" and a "world-class player", apt praise.
Less than three years ago, Gil, who is now 23 years old, was considered in the same breath, regarded among talents of such a calibre that they would be competing at the peak of football for years to come.
Saka and Bellingham have lived up to the plate, but a move to the Premier League has unravelled the precious threads of Gil's breakthrough, and he is now languishing on the fringe of Tottenham's senior set-up.
Bryan Gil's season in numbers
Gil spent the 2022/23 campaign out on loan with Sevilla, and while he has returned to Spurs' squad this season, journalist Mitch Fretton has claimed that he is "unwanted" by the Lilywhites manager.

Across all competitions, he has played in ten Premier League fixtures this term and come off the bench in the FA Cup third round against Burnley, but he is yet to register a goal contribution and he's actually only started twice.
One of those matches, against Manchester City, provided a performance of such little promise that pundit Jamie Carragher claimed he "looked like a boy playing in a man’s game" – Postecoglou evidently shared this sentiment and he was hooked at half-time.
As per Sofascore, Gil is only averaging 0.3 key passes, 0.1 tackles and 1.6 ball recoveries per game in the English top-flight, with 0.7 dribbles and 1.1 duels per game really hammering home just how limp and lifeless he has been. Something needs to change, and with the gears shifting under Postecoglou's leadership it looks like Gil might be left behind.
Bryan Gil in action for Tottenham.
Resurgence. Gil needs to find his feet and he needs to start performing at the level that he was expected to reach when first gracing English shores, the level that he was performing at with Sevilla in his carefree, exuberant maiden days.
Gil needs to pick up the pieces and build himself up, but unfortunately, Tottenham are on the rise and he's not exactly proving himself under Postecoglou's wing.
It's time to draw the curtain on this one; it's the best move for all involved parties.

Home side build lead worth 261 as Glamorgan attack toils in sunshine
ECB Reporters Network23-Aug-2024
Anuj Dal fell short of a hundred•Getty Images
Anuj Dal led a strong Derbyshire batting display to put the home side in a commanding position on day two of the Vitality County Championship Division Two match against Glamorgan at Derby.Dal made 94 from 135 balls after Harry Came, with 84, and Wayne Madsen’s 70 put Derbyshire on course for a big first-innings total.Glamorgan spinner Ben Kellaway took his first wickets in first-class cricket, finishing with 3 for 59, while Mason Crane claimed 3 for 43 as Derbyshire were bowled out for 429, a lead of 261.Glamorgan were left with a tricky 12 overs to negotiate but they survived to close on 39 without loss, still 222 behind. It was a good day for batting with the County Ground bathed in sunshine which was a good sign for the overnight pair of Came and Madsen who proceeded in untroubled fashion to move past Glamorgan’s modest first innings.Ned Leonard again offered too much width which allowed Came to settle back into his innings by twice dispatching short balls to the point boundary.Glamorgan’s attack struggled to impose a measure of control with Madsen reaching his 50 off 88 balls and the stand was worth 130 when Came threw away the chance of a century. The opener came down the pitch to hit Kellaway back over his head but the bowler leapt to take an excellent catch at the second attempt to claim his maiden first-class wicket. He soon had a second as Madsen attempted a slog sweep but got under it and skied a simple catch to midwicket. That brought together the former Glamorgan pair of David Lloyd and Anuerin Donald, who was intent on taking the attack to the bowlers. He pulled Dan Douthwaite for six and crunched Kellaway through the covers to move to 28 from only 22 balls before a smart piece of wicketkeeping removed him two overs before lunch.Donald paddled Kellaway around the corner but Chris Cooke had anticipated the shot and moved across to take a fine catch at leg slip.Even so, it had been a productive morning for Derbyshire who led by 79 at the interval and they tightened their grip on the game in the second session.Lloyd was closing in on a half-century against his former team-mates when Crane got one to spin between bat and pad to take the off stump.Glamorgan’s hopes of wrapping up the innings quickly faded as Zak Chappell again showed how well he can bat by sharing a stand of 67 from 99 balls with Dal who straight drove Leonard for his sixth four to reach 50.By tea, the lead was over 200 but rather than give their bowlers a session to go at Glamorgan, Derbyshire batted on for another 18 overs, presumably to give Dal a chance of a century.Pat Brown stayed with him for 89 balls while another 48 runs were added but Dal fell short when he drove Crane to long-off.That left Glamorgan with an awkward period to get through and Kellaway enjoyed another landmark when he edged Chappell for four to open his account in the first-class game after three consecutive ducks.Chappell should have removed Billy Root in his next over but Donald spilled the chance at third slip and the pair stayed together to provide Glamorgan with some comfort at the end of another challenging day.

Former Pakistan captain’s lawyers set to appeal the sentence at the High Court

Imran Khan has been in prison since August 2023•AFP/Getty Images
Imran Khan, the former Pakistan captain and Prime Minister, has been sentenced to ten years in prison by a special court in Pakistan. He stands accused of not returning a diplomatic document after he was removed from the office of Prime Minister in 2022. He has been in prison since August 2023 on a separate charge, and though that sentence was suspended, he was still not released.Imran was charged under the Official Secrets Act, a British era law, with a special court convened to hear his case, as well as that of Shah Mahmood Qureshi, a senior figure in Imran’s political party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Qureshi also received a ten-year sentence. The PTI’s official Twitter account issued a statement, calling the ruling “a sham trial and a complete mockery and disregard of law”.Imran has consistently alleged that the no-confidence vote to remove him from power was undertaken at the behest of the United States of America, and that the document in question contained proof of American diplomatic pressure to get rid of him. This allegation gained further momentum when the US news organisation published an article after purportedly gaining access to the classified document. The article said the US State Department threatened Pakistani isolation if Imran wasn’t removed, and that if he was indeed removed, “all would be forgiven”.In Pakistan, public discussion of that classified document, known as a cypher, has led to the possibility of being charged with a violation of the Official Secrets Act. The charges of both Imran and Qureshi have had to do with discussing the contents of the document in public. This latest flashpoint comes just nine days before Pakistan goes to the polls. Opinion polling in the lead-up to the elections has been non-existent, but the most recent independent polls have shown Imran to be the most popular politician in the country. When he was arrested by paramilitary security forces in May 2023, violent uprisings took place throughout the country that led to an internet blackout that lasted several days; tens of thousands of his political supporters were also arrested. The party that Imran had led to power in the 2018 elections has been barred from contesting these elections, with Imran personally banned from running for any political office for five years.Imran and Queshi’s lawyers said they would appeal this sentence in the High Court.
